I dunno . The Spider version of the 159/Brera is totally underwhelming to me.

With the Spider, they used to create special styling. This looks like a 159 with the spot for the backseat cut out. Apparently it drove like that, too. The previous-generation Spider was a lot more interesting to me.

And I adore the 159 and Brera.

I have been a massive, massive fan of this generation GTV and Spider since I first saw it grace the buff mag covers back around 1993 or 1994. To my extreme childhood disappointment, Alfa pulled out before this car made it to US shores, however. And I adored its predecessor.

This version in this color in this photo make me fall in love with it all over again. Someday, when I’m not in grad school and saddled with debt living in an apartment, maybe I’ll figure out how to import one. The 25 year rule is about to make these eligible. The one I really want, though, is the final 2003-05 facelift.

I never used to like the 159 front end for some reason, but it grew on me.

The previou s gen Spider had those small headlights that looked like they were tacked after the company decided not to go the flip up light route.

Like when BMW did that shite to the 316ti Compact.

Yeah, lots of companies did that back in the mid-90s as rectangular composite headlights and flip-ups were playing out. The 1994-2000 Acura Integra, 1994-98 Toyota Celica, first Lotus Elise, and several others did this, as well. I liked it, but I realize it’s not for everyone.
